a label with an inscription in pen (?) Florentine (?).

Caption in gold lettering in Latin in the upper right: Ego autem sum vermis

The head and torso of Christ are found with their misalignments in
the engraving of the Flagellation (1597) of the series in twelve engravings
of the Passion of Hebndrick Goltzius...

Letters and documents :
1 - A detailed letter dated 5 May 1984 from Didier Bodart, Doctor of Archaeology and History of Art, (Rome) containing a study of the painting will be given to the buyer. He considers "that it is indeed for me an interesting work by Hendrick Goltzius, which can be dated to around 1596 - 1597".
2 - A letter from the Italian historian Piero Morselli (Villa I Tatti, The Harvard University Center for Italian Renaissance Studies, Florence; undated) stating that the work is by Hendrick Goltzius and analysing his style, will be given to the purchaser.
