Bronze medal in the effigy of King Alfonso V of Aragon Av/ Profile portrait of King Alfonso V of Aragon. The legend develops in : "Divus Alphonsus Aragonus Siciliæ Valentiæ Hungariæ Maioricarum Sardiniæ Corsicæ Rex Comes Barcironæ Dux Athenarum et Neopatriæ Comes Roscilionis [et] Ceritaniæ". Rv/ VENATOR / INTREPIDVS. A naked hunter, accompanied by two dogs, leaps and straddles a boar and is about to strike it with a dagger. Signature PISANTI . PICTORIS. With this hunting scene expressing strength and resistance, the Italian artist Antonio Pisanello (1395 ?-1455?) reveals not only the speed and agility shown by King Alfonso V, King of Aragon (1396-1458) in managing the kingdom's affairs, but also his keen interest in hunting. A Pisanellian drawing preserved in Berlin inspired the composition of the medal, probably executed in Naples around 1449. Numbered on the edge: 116; Diam: 10 cm; SUP Reproduction of a medal by Antonio Pisanello (Naples, circa 1449) BnF, Department of Coins, Medals and Antiquities, Italian Medals 1.
