TISSOT James (School of) Nantes 1835 - Chenecey - Buillon 1902 The Departure of the Prodigal Son. Oil on cardboard. On the reverse side a study in garden greyness with two dogs. H. 27 - W. 54 cm In connection with the composition by James Tissot (1862) kept in Paris at the Musée du Petit Palais (cf. Catalogue of the James Tissot exhibition, L'ambigu moderne, No. 11 p. 23 & 307 - Musée d'Orsay 2020). There are several variations on the completed composition, particularly in the central group where the figure of the woman and child is missing, in the one to the right of the men in the boat and the one to the left of the women on the pontoon.
