Text: "Sir, having received one of the bouquets so graciously sent from you, I have come to ask you to accept from mine this little one made by me. In addition to its purpose, this book will serve to remind you of the pain that has just struck Russia, in which France has taken such a keen part and of which we are deeply touched. This remembrance is contained in the inscription embroidered at the end of the ribbon, which contains the following words: "En témoignage de reconnaissance et de vive part pour notre profonde douleur, 20 octobre 1894", the entire inscription means, the word Russia. Thanking you once again for your sympathy and attention, I say that I am a supporter of the Franco-Russian alliance. »
