COURIER (Paul-Louis). Petition for villagers who are prevent - Lot 6
COURIER (Paul-Louis). Petition for villagers who are prevented from dancing. Paris, Chez les Marchands de nouveautés, 1822. Brochure in-8 of 28 pages, disjointed. In French in the text, n°233. Original edition of the author's most famous pamphlet. The petition was aimed at canceling a prefectoral decree issued at the request of a young priest boiling with zeal, which forbade the villagers to dance on Sundays in the square of Azai: Courier goes beyond the rural framework of a simple village chronicle - admirably evoked - to denounce the intrusion of the Church and the government in the private life of each person (Paul-Louis Courier, cat. BnF, 1972, n°250). Attractive copy, as published, with its printed cover.
