MARAT (Jean-Paul). Physical research on fire. Paris, Jombert - Lot 16
MARAT (Jean-Paul). Physical research on fire. Paris, Jombert fils, 1780. In-8, marbled calf, cold fillet, decorated spine, red title coin, red edges (contemporary binding). Original edition, decorated with 7 folding plates engraved on copper by Madame Ponce. The last leaflet contains the famous privilege dated April 1780, addressed to our bitter friend, Mr. Marat [sic]: we know that Lavoisier, after an erroneous announcement in the Journal de Paris (June 9, 1780) indicating that the Academy of Sciences had approved the work, made an intervention the following day to denounce this information, specifying not without disdain that the Academy had refused to grant Marat its approval. Small epidermis, a cracked bit. The following was linked to the sequel: - VOLTA (Alexander). Letters about the flammable swamp air. Strasbourg, De l'Imprimerie de J. H. Heitz, 1778. First French edition, decorated with a folding plate. - [BERNSTORFF]. L'économie de la nature. Amsterdam, Et se trouve à Paris, Didot le jeune, Durand, Mérigot jeune, 1783. A folding board. The text is incomplete from pages 181-186, containing a passage that was suppressed by the Censor as indicated by a handwritten note of the time.
