[PELISSERY (Roch Antony de)]. Le Caffé politique d'Amsterdam - Lot 99
[PELISSERY (Roch Antony de)]. Le Caffé politique d'Amsterdam, or Entretiens familiers d'un François, d'un Anglois, d'un Hollandois, et d'un Cosmopolite, on the various economic & political interests of France, Spain, & England. Amsterdam, 1776. 2 volumes in-8, marbled calf, triple gilt fillet, decorated smooth spine, red title and tomaison coins, marbled edges (contemporary binding). INED, n°3511. Original edition, decorated with 8 folding paintings. It was published under the pseudonym Charle [sic], Élie, Denis Roonptsÿ, maître du Caffé. Le Caffé politique exposes in the form of five lively dialogues the economic debates and the international politics of the time. The fifth dialogue, which occupies the entire second volume, is a discussion of Turgot's ruling establishing the liberalization of grain trade: this ruling gives rise to contrasting reactions, particularly from the Cosmopolite, Pellissery's mask, which criticizes this measure. Old note on the title, signed Noel, which attributes the work to Necker or Pellissery. Tear without missing a painting (vol. II, p. 142). A few stains in book C of volume I. Restorations to the binding (caps, jaws and corners).
