HOLY SYCOPHANCY. - SAINT-SIMONIAN BOOKS. I) Dogma. - II) Pro - Lot 115
HOLY SYCOPHANCY. - SAINT-SIMONIAN BOOKS. I) Dogma. - II) Prophecy. - III) Retreat and trial. - IV) Dispersion. S.l.n.d. Set of 33 fascicles and articles in 4 volumes in-8, half-brown maroon, spine decorated with fillets and fleurons, gilt title (contemporary binding). Precious collection of 33 Saint-Simonian texts, constituted, in all likelihood, by Aglaé Saint-Hilaire, known as Madame Mathieu, an emblematic Saint-Simonian and figure of feminism under the July Monarchy. The name of this Saint-Simonienne is inscribed in pen on seven of these pieces (consignments?). An exceptional provenance. Born in 1793, motherless, Aglaé Saint-Hilaire was brought up at a very young age by Prosper Enfantin's own mother. In May 1830, she took an active part in the meetings of the Saint-Simonian women and, with the title of "head of the house", assumed part of the stewardship of the community on rue Monsigny. It seems that she was intimately linked with the "Father" at the time, and was in any case his confidant, even his muse, and one of his most active supporters in the debates on morality that tore the Saint-Simonian movement apart. During the trial of 1832, she presented herself as one of the two "councils" of Enfantin, and was named Member of the College, like Claire Bazard and Cécile Fournel. Finally, she was given the responsibility of looking after the house of Ménilmontant during the imprisonment, then the stay in Egypt of the leader of the Saint-Simonian (cf. Maitron). Aglaé Saint-Hilaire is the author of a Note in the Procès en la cour d'assises..., pp. 309-317 (see Volume III): The Childish Father testified to the desire to have two women for his counsel, and this request, which was completely out of custom received at the bar as elsewhere, since the woman did not present herself everywhere as a minor, was rejected. I am one of these women; I obtained, as well as my companion, to remain close to the Father Enfantin during the debates. .
