After accompanying James Cook on his second and third voyages, Captain George Vancouver (1757-1798) was assigned by the Admiralty to seek a passage between the Pacific and the Great Lakes, and to claim part of Nootka territory from the Spanish. He carried out the most important exploration of the northwest coast of America (particularly Alaska), visited San Francisco and Monterey. in Mexico, and brought back important information about New Zealand, Tahiti and Hawaii, complementing Cook's discoveries. Nice copy in contemporary binding. A few freckles, small wet halo in the margin of some leaves.
