Original edition of ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL TRAVEL BOOKS PUBLISHED IN THE 17th CENTURY. This famous relationship, due to the naturalist and explorer Pierre Sonnerat (1748-1814), contains an interesting documentation and abundant on the regions of the Indian Ocean, India and China: mores of the inhabitants, religion of the Hindus, natural history, etc. The illustration contains 140 superb plates drawn by Pierre Sonnerat and engraved on copper by Poisson, Milsan, Avril, Desmoulins. and Fessart. These represent scenes of daily life, trades, ceremonies, costumes, deities, instruments music, birds, plants and fruit. Copy in waiting cardboard, untrimmed and with wide margins. It comes from the library of the castle of La Davière, with an armor-plated wet stamp on the titles. The list of subscribers to the edition (4 ff.) is inserted in volume II, between pp. VI and VII. Without the big map. Clear wetness touching the edge of some boards and the margin of some sheets in Volume I. Brown spot on the edges of the first 110 pages of Volume II, also touching the edges of the plates included in this portion of the volume. Important lack of 19th-century paper covering the back.
