GUSTAVE ROGER SANDOZ Part of an 18K (750) gold Art Nouveau brooch-pendant depicting a Japanese landscape with water lilies, swallows and setting sun, in cloisonné translucent enamel, within a frame of arabesques, water lily leaves, gorse and enamelled irises. Signed G. R. SANDOZ Around 1900. Enamel accidents The system for the spindle, the chain and an element that had to be hung in pendants is missing. Eagle head punch and partially inscribed master punch Dimensions: 9 x 5 cm. - Gross weight: 60.65 g. Gustave Roger Sandoz (1867-1943) Son of the Swiss watchmaker Gustave Sandoz à, whom he succeeded in 1891, Gustave Roger Sandoz moved to rue Royale in 1895. He distinguished himself as a member of the jury at the 1900 Universal Exhibition. According to Henri Vever, his Art Nouveau pieces were particularly noticed there (Histoire de la bijouterie française au XIXe siècle, vol. III). He collaborates with the great master glassmaker Emile Gallé for whom he creates gilded frames. His son Gérard Sandoz is one of the most remarkable Art Deco jewellers.
