Madeleine Lemaire (1845-1928), Roses, circa 1900 Large fan, the paper sheet, skin lined, paints the emblematic roses of the artist. Signed "Madeleine Lemaire" on the right. Reverse side mute. Brown tortoiseshell frame**. Engraved and gilded reverse side of "Buissot Paris" plume. Brown** scale figure on the plume. Beer. H.t. 34.3 cm-H.F. 22 cm (good condition, small stains on the reverse) NB: Madeleine Lemaire was a woman painter who was very fashionable in Paris at the end of the 19th century. She held a salon frequented by all the Parisian high society. Flowers and especially roses are her favourite subjects. See a very similar fan preserved in the collections of the Musée de la Mode de la Ville de Paris, illustrated on p. 33 in "L'éventail, miroir de la Belle Epoque", 1985.
