RABIER Benjamin, 1869-1939 The Hunt is On pen, Indian ink and watercolour on paper (slight insolation and some foxing), signed lower right, titled lower middle 39x24 cm Benjamin Rabier was not mobilized during the First War but participated in the war effort by contributing to various magazines with his animals, mixing humor and anti-German propaganda, and invented in particular the Wachkyrie which will later become the famous cheese emblem taken up by Léon Bel. Our worried rabbit is found in two illustrations, one in the newspaper La Baïonnette n°68 of October 19, 1916 but with the opposite mention "La chasse est fermée" and on a postcard entitled L'obus de 420 captioned: "Le lapin de l'Argonne ... Zut! ... the hunting is opened!!!" .
