Small indo-portuguese box - Lot 197
Small indo-portuguese box Exotic wood inlaid with ivory India, partly 17th century (the outer panels restored in the 19th century) H.: 21.5 cm - W.: 31.7 cm - D.: 22.8 cm This partly 17th century cabinet has retained its original decoration on the inside of the flap and five drawers, as shown by the visible wear of these old parts. The exterior decoration is of good quality and is a recreation of the 19th century, in the continuity of the original decoration. The cabinet is richly decorated with large bouquets of flowers and floral friezes and rests on four small circular brass feet. This Mughal-influenced decoration is typical of objects produced in India for the European market, particularly the Portuguese market. Equipped with a key. (Partial restoration in ivory on some fillets and on a drawer)
