Portrait of an Indian dignitary Polychrome pigments on ivory India, Company School, 19th century Dimensions Beautiful medallion portrait of a Mughal or Sikh dignitary painted on ivory. Miniature portraits on ivory were in vogue in the 19th century during the Company School period. A portrait of Mumtaz Mahal, and other ivory paintings from the same period are in the Victoria & Albert Museum and published in Archer M. (1992), Company Paintings, Indian Paintings of the British Period, V&A Museum / Maping Publishing, p. 190 and pp. 218-219.
