First edition of the French translation of this CLASSIC OF AMERICAN LITERATURE. It is dedicated to the Marquis de Lafayette, major general in the American troops. The author, a colonist of Norman origin, describes with picturesque life in the United States during the War of Independence, gives details of the customs of the inhabitants, describes Canada, Acadia, etc., speaks of whaling, denounces slavery and the barbarity of the planters, etc. Second edition copy, without the errata.
