LE BLANC (François). Historical treatise of the coins of Fra - Lot 66
LE BLANC (François). Historical treatise of the coins of France, with their figures, from the beginning of the Monarchy to the present. Paris, Jean Boudot, 1690, in-4, granite calf, spine decorated, red speckled edges (period binding). First edition, illustrated with a frontispiece engraved by Ertinger, with profile of Louis XIV in medallion, 3 vignettes at the head, 59 plates of coins and numerous figures of medals in the text. An important and sought-after treatise on the history of royal coinage. The copy belonged to an 18th century enthusiast who left comments and various corrections on several butterflies stuck in the inner margin. One will notice, in the beautiful decoration of the back, the use of the roulette with the crowned dolphin and fleur-de-lis. Handwritten ex-libris of the 18th century crossed out on the upper counterplate. Small angular wetness on f. h1, marginal crack repaired on f. Ee2. A cracked spine, small lacks at the headpieces, large wetness on the second plate.
