WALRAS (Léon). - TRAVAIL (Le). International organ of the in - Lot 91
WALRAS (Léon). - TRAVAIL (Le). International organ of the interests of the working class. Review of the cooperative movement. Paris, Brussels, 1867-1868. Together 9 issues (n°4, October 31, 1867 - n°12, June 30, 1868), in-4, in sheets. Extremely rare socialist journal, founded in 1866 by Léon Walras and Léon Say to promote the cooperative movement, which has the consequence of increasing the solidarity that exists between capital and labour (n°1, col. 10). Of this monthly, only 24 issues appeared in all, from 31 July 1866 to 30 June 1868. Nos. 4 to 9 contain the first edition, under the title Recherche de l'idéal social, of the six public lectures given in Paris by Léon Walras (1834-1910): born in Évreux, this economist (the greatest according to Schumpeter) is considered one of the pioneers of mathematical economics and the founder of the theory of general economic equilibrium; he held the chair of political economy in Lausanne from 1870 to 1892, a post which was succeeded by his disciple Vilfredo Pareto. These six lessons were later reprinted in a volume under the same title in 1868 (cf. Jean-Pierre Potier, "Léon Walras, un économiste socialiste libéral" in Libertés et libéralismes..., 2012, pp. 259-282). Imperial stamp repeated. Scuffed paper on the title page of #8. A few rare stains.
