Levantine pedestal table and pedestal tables Wood inlaid with mother of pearl Levant, 19th century Dimensions: H. 94,5 - Size of the tray: 47,5 x 48,5 cm H. 47,5 - Tray size: 35 cm H. 37,5 cm - Tray size: 28 cm The square top of this Levantine saddle is decorated with a chiselled calligraphic design consisting of a central cartouche (Qur'an 48:1), framed by four flowery spandrels forming the phrase "I am in the Levant". The base, with abundant chiselled vegetal motifs, is composed of a large square base and a high shaft with cut sides decorated with mother-of-pearl inlays forming stars, flowers and lozenges, and openwork central parts in turned wood. The octagonal pedestal table has a chiselled decoration of radiating stars with vegetal decoration, framed by a frieze of interlacing, and in the centre of which was inlaid a small mother-of-pearl star (missing). The base is composed of eight cut sides decorated with openwork fleurons, chiselled motifs and mother-of-pearl inlaid stars. Each side also has a calligraphic cartouche with the word "Liban" in the upper part.
