Overmoulding of a seal from the beginning of the 16th century H. 11.7 cm - W 7.6 cm. Claude de Longwy (1481-1561), known as the "Cardinal de Givry", was successively bishop of Mâcon (1510-1529) and for a time held the bishoprics of Langres (1529-1561), Poitiers (1534-1551), Périgueux (1540-1541) and Amiens (1540-1546). On the occasion of the marriage of the future king Henry II and Catherine de Medici, Clement VII granted him the title of Saint Agnes in Agona, a cardinal's title instituted by Pope Leo IX in 1517. From this moment, he signed under the name of Claude cardinal de Givry. Work and site consulted: L-E. MARCEL, Le Cardinal de Givry : évêque de Langres (1529-1561), imp. de N.
