Solène writes: "January 2021. Many of us were waiting for this new year as the utopian promise of a better tomorrow. For months we have been fighting to keep the momentum, the desire to create, the link, this link to the other which is the essence of our artistic professions, this link that the crisis had so altered. Alexis wrote me a short message to suggest that I go and shout in front of a lens. The idea surprised me, amused me, questioned me. What is this photographer looking for by wanting to freeze our cries? I, an actress, who only have a voice for my characters and impudence to give them body, what can I offer without their precious pretext? I feel that it is not a question of playing, and that on the contrary, it will be necessary to let go and deliver, to deliver oneself. Because a real cry cannot be counterfeited, it always comes from the heart, it takes root in our entrails. The grimace of the cry is fascinating because it is whole, powerful, liberating. It is the violent expression of a truth. And I ask myself if I am capable of offering this truth, and how I can justify, artistically and personally, such an act of exposure. I am my craft. It defines me, it is the meaning I give to my life. Everything goes very fast. I want to scream, because, yes, it hurts to have become "non-essential". I want to scream, for all those characters, from Shakespeare's kings to Beckett's tramps, who wander lifelessly through the aisles of theatres. I want to shout, to give them back their voice, to reconnect with the beauty of a word, a gesture, a look, that grace that heals our pain of being, our fear, our emptiness. To shout out also this desire to be together, to mix again our laughter and our tears to question and reinvent the world. And then to shout out this rage to be alive, to feel, to vibrate, to touch, we who have all become potential carriers of death for others. To shout out our need to be, our need for the other, and our need to be innocent. So here we are... instinctively... the clown. Since we, the philosophical buffoons, the harlequins, the entertainers, have lost our role in society. The clown, because he laughs, because he cries, because he plays, because he belongs to childhood and innocence... at least if he escapes horror. Christophe warms us up. And here we go. Today, I can still hear the screams echoing in my head. A call for help, an emergency, a survival instinct, a raw struggle, so many untranslatable things suddenly spring to mind. I slip my hand into Alexis', as if to better face the dizzying fall into this confession of souls. And Christophe welcomes, humbly, silently, this jubilant emotional surge. Later, I understood that his project was touching on something immense. For beyond the striking force of his photos, beyond the major upheaval they bear witness to, Christophe has been able to create a bridge between our cries, a link of appeasement, of humanity and of resemblance. Our solitary cries have become a song, powerful, choral, multiple, and I know that others will join it."
