Yves CORMIER (1740-1805) magistrate, he joined the army of t - Lot 383
Yves CORMIER (1740-1805) magistrate, he joined the army of the Princes and was commissioner for issuing passports to emigrants; later established in London, he corresponded with the insurgents in the West and joined Charlotte Atkyns' plans to escape Louis XVII and his family. 5 L.A., London [February-October 1794], to CharlotteAtkyns, in Norfolk or London; 10 pages in-4, addresses, black wax seal. Friendly correspondence between the two royalist agents, Cormier admiring the "beautiful and good" lady. There is perhaps no reason to be alarmed: "either these people are doing something, or they are hidden, like cowards, in some attics, or what is certain is that they have not been arrested, nor consequently guillotined, since there is no mention of them in any of the monitors, and that they are passing on their news"... He alludes, obscurely, to a "plan" to which he invites her to give thought. "Someone has revealed, for a few days, that they intend to deport the young King [Louis XVII], this news has no more foundation than his death, and his coronation, all these news are made in London by different motives"... He exhorts her to be patient... He declares bluntly his need for money to conclude "the great affair"; "when one deals with business and business of this importance, one must not think that one is talking to a woman, especially when dealing with Mde Atk. so different from the rest of her sex"...
