Jean-Augustin ERNOUF (1753-1827) general of the Revolution a - Lot 401
Jean-Augustin ERNOUF (1753-1827) general of the Revolution and the Empire. L.S., Sarrelibre H.Q. 30 germinal II (19 April 1794), to CenDesneuillers "public accuser at the revolutionary tribunal in Arras"; 2 pages folio, headed Le Chef de l'État-Major de l'Armée de la Moselle. Account of the last victories of the army of Moselle commanded by Jourdan, of which Ernouf is the chief of staff. "Brother, the famous Beaulieu had the same fate as Cobourg, he received the same lesson from Jourdan. The troops of the republic attacked the enemy near Arton on the evening of the 27th of this month, the cannonade and the shooting were extremely lively. In spite of its excellent geographical situation, "all these defenses of art and nature were useless on the 28th in the morning and the republican value carried them off at full speed. The majority of the enemy troops did not wait for the shock, they fled with haste. They only lost 100 men, whereas last year "we lost two thousand men to take this place. The good dispositions that Jourdan made and the perfect agreement that reigned in the different divisions during the attack are the cause of the few losses"... Etc.
