Jean-François RICORD (1759-1818) conventionnel (Var). L.A.S. - Lot 422
Jean-François RICORD (1759-1818) conventionnel (Var). L.A.S., Nice 18 thermidor II (August 2, 1794), to Christophe Saliceti; 2 pages in-4 (ink stamp of the Patrice Hennessy collection). He sends to his colleague and friend a proclamation of the Convention where the Committee of Public Safety suspends the attack of Cuneo. He thus advises him to go to convince their colleagues to "engage them to take all the defensive measures for the position of the Army of the Alps", especially as they make descend some battalions to reinforce the garrisons of the coast, whereas the artillery will remain in place for the execution of the plan: he hopes that "this suspension is only momentary and that the coasts will be well defended and safe from any fear on behalf of the enemy fleets which threaten them. The Committee of Public Safety will order the attack of Demont and Ceva, whose capture assures us the winter quarters in the plains of Piedmont and puts us in measure against the attempts of the enemy on the side of Genoa. [...] Hasten your return, the present crisis will turn [...] to the advantage of liberty, may all those who will still try to destroy it be promptly exterminated. I pity young Robespierree who will have been undoubtedly dragged by his brother in this infamous conspiracy, but I prefer death to the worries that his existence could give to my fatherland "...
