Étienne-Alexandre de BERNETZ (1770-1853) officer, he joined - Lot 516
Étienne-Alexandre de BERNETZ (1770-1853) officer, he joined his friend d'Autichamp in the Vendée wars, colonel under the Restoration. L.A.S., co-signed by Charles-Marie de Beaumont, comte d'AUTICHAMP (1770-1859), La Morosière August 20 "vieux stile" [1795], to Citoyen Representant [Pierre-Marie Delaunay]; 3 pages in-4. Interesting letter written from Stofflet's, when Charette wants to resume hostilities. They warn him that they are writing to the Comité de Salut Public to inform it of "threats made to us by the volunteers who are stationed at Ste Gemme. Their threats have even forced us to leave this commune and we are now with Mr. Stofflet who is as well as his country in the most perfect tranquility. However the inhabitants who by the treaty were exempt from all requisitions receive orders every day to provide, on the other hand the soldiers who are in the country treat them in a rather hard way which makes them murmur and they are not long we inform the Committee of this and of a manifesto of Mr. Charette which declares a new war and invites this country to do the same. As this country only knows its word and wants to keep the treaty, we are writing to you at this time to reiterate the desire we have to contribute with all our power to maintain peace in this country"... Attached is a l.a.s. to the same by the mother of the Count of Autichamp, "Agathe Jaquette Greffin, Beaumont", Paris 10 prairial III (29 May 1795).
