Pierre Riel de BEURNONVILLE (1752-1821) marshal of France, he was minister of War. L.A.S. as general-in-chief of the Army of the North, Paris 28 ventôse IV (March 18, 1796), to citizen MALUS, commissioner-orderer in Holland; 2 pages and a half in-4, address with postmark. He has just been entrusted with the command in chief of the army of the North, and he will go first to Gorcum. He speaks about his liberation (he had been made prisoner by Dumouriez in 1793; delivered to the prince of Cobourg, he was exchanged for Madame Royale after 33 months of captivity): "it is a real ressurection to get out of the clutches of these Austrian buggers. My head remains, except for some rheumatism"...
