Louis de FROTTÉ (1766-1800) general in chief of the Norman Chouannerie, he was shot. P.S., co-signed by six officers, "en Conseil" April 17, 1796 "l'an 2e du règne de Louis XVIII"; 3 pages small in-4, handwritten letterhead Armée Catholique et Royale de Normandie, ink stamp with royal arms and owls in vignette, and red wax stamp (wetness with small lack repaired on the 2nd leaf). Rare document from the Catholic and Royal Army of Normandy. "We, composing the civil and military Council of the Catholic and Royal Army of Normandy, authorized by Monsieur Frère du Roi, Lieutenant of the Kingdom [...] authorize M. de Bourguignon, known as L'avant-garde, to rally the faithful subjects of the Roy for the triumph of the altar and the throne, in the division of Cheux [...]. We designate especially the parish of Mathieu and its surroundings, without approaching one league from the edges of the sea ". They are also ready to welcome other insurgents, and to call "those whom we will judge to have the most rights by an effective service, devoid of ambition"... They authorize M. de Bourguignon to "collect in the parish of Mathieu [...] the product of the national domains usurped or sold"... In addition to Frotté, six officers are signed: the viscount of Chambray "appointed by HRH Monsieur", count Henry de Frotté "charged with the orders of his royal highness", Achard desHautes-Noës "chief of the canton", etc. Attached is a copy of a letter from Louis de Frotté to the chevalier de Bruslart, February 15, 1800, at the time of his departure for Alençon where he was arrested; and a L.A.S from Charles de Frotté, his cousin, July 24, 1810.
