Jean-Baptiste CLÉRY (1759-1809) faithful servant of Louis XVI in the Temple prison. L.A.S. (in the 3rd person), July 9, 1798, to Charlotte Atkyns; 2 pages in-8. About Madame Royale (who would marry her cousin the Duke of Angouleme a year later). Cléry thanks Mrs. Atkins "for her agreeable offer for shopping or for her dressmaker. He is not charged with any commission for Madame de France, and if he were charged, no one better than Madame Atkins could do them with more attachment and zeal. But it is Monsieur in Edinburgh who has taken charge of everything for Madame de France. As for the dressmaker, if Mr. Clery decides to have the dresses he has already bought made, he will ask Madame Atkins for her good taste. He hopes to see her soon...Old collection of the historian G. Lenotre (under autograph folder).
