Félix-Louis Ventre de la Touloubre, known as MONTJOYE (1746-1816) a famous pamphleteer and royalist journalist. L.S., co-signed by 26 persons, Paris October 12, 1815, to "Our Lords" the Peers of France; 2 1/2 pages in-fol. Royalist petition for the expiation of the death of Louis XVI. "We beg you to declare in the name of France, too long condemned to silence either by anarchy or by despotism, 1° that the person of King Louis XVI was inviolable; 2° that no one had the right to judge him [...4° That far from King Louis XVI being considered guilty, the clemency of this pious Monarch, who always forbade a single drop of blood to be shed for his cause, is to be admired and blessed forever; 5° That the present King will be begged to order that forever the 21st of January of each year be a day of atonement; that on that day, a solemn and expiatory service for the death of the pious Louis XVI will be celebrated in all the churches and by the various cults in the Kingdom"; games and shows will be forbidden, mourning clothes will be worn, relief will be distributed to the needy, etc. After the signature of "MONTJOYE the author of l'Ami du Roi, de l'Éloge de Louis XVI &c", we note the names of "REGNAUD DE PARIS, doyen of the hostages of Louis XVI, defender of the King", "GENDRON jeune,encien officier de la Bouche de la feu reine, and former patissier on the steps of the royal palace", the architectDUVAL, the printer-librarian JANINET, the count of BARRUEL-BEAUVERT "one of the first hostages of LouisXVI arrested in Varennes, and one of the great victims of the revolution", the perfumer CARRON, etc. Former Patrice Hennessy collection.
