François, duke of ALENÇON (1554-1584) fourth son of Henri II and Catherine de Médicis, he became in 1576 duke of Anjou by the "peace of Monsieur", he intrigued with the Protestants, and tried to take power in Flanders. L.S. with autograph compliment " Vretres humble et tres obissant frere et subgetFrançoys ", Paris March 22, 1570, to Charles IX; 1 page folio, addressed with seal of arms on paper (slight foxing). Beautiful supplication to the king his brother. He begs him to grant the five of his officers who denounced the usurer who is currently on trial, the gratuities to which they are entitled: "My lord, there are five of my officers who have been warned of some confiscation ready to be judged, against an accused and accused of usury, by your prosecutor. And desiring that they be granted the gift that they request from you.
