Antoine-Joseph GORSAS (1752-1793) journalist, conventioneer (Seine-et-Oise), Girondin, he was the first conventioneer guillotined. L.A.S., [early May 1791?], to Palloy; 1 page in-4, address. Effigy of Pope Pius VI burned at the Palais Royal. He instructs the bearer of this letter, "an excellent citizen like you" to come to his house "for our straw Pope that it is absolutely necessary to burn until ashes follow: if it is necessary even he will give a hand to the manufacture"... [On May 4, 1791, a writ of Pope Pius VI having indignant several members of a patriotic society, a straw dummy with the effigy of the Pope was burned, after a simulated trial, in the gardens of the Royal Palace]...
