Jacques-René HÉBERT (1755-1794) the violent pamphleteer of F - Lot 302
Jacques-René HÉBERT (1755-1794) the violent pamphleteer of Father Duchêne, substitute for the Prosecutor (Chaumette) of the Paris Commune, arrested with his supporters and guillotined. L.A.S., [ca. mid-1793], to his friend citizen François-Nicolas VINCENT, secretary general of War; 1 page in-8, address. He urges him to intervene to "make agree the resignation of the citizen Desmaretz administrator of the Subsistances", which the minister of War refused. But Desmaretz "judged himself exhausted of work his sight does not allow him any more to deliver himself to that which this place requires. He will not be reproached for evading responsibility and leaving after having enriched himself [...] He is, I assure you, the most honest man I know and he should be thanked for giving up to another a job that he thinks is beyond his strength"... He signs: "your sincere friend Hebert". [François-Nicolas Vincent (1767-1794) will be arrested and guillotined with the Hebertists]. Rare. Former collection Jean ELLENSTEIN (May 29, 1980, n°758).
