Jean-Baptiste-Joseph GOBEL (1727-1794) bishop, he was deputy of the clergy of Béfort to the States General; he was the first deputy-bishop to take an oath to the civil constitution of the clergy, and was elected bishop of Paris; after resigning, he was arrested with the Hébertists and guillotined. L.S. and L.A.S., Paris September 20, 1793 and n.d.; 1 page folio and 1 page in-4 with address. L.S. " Gobel Evèque métrop. de Paris ", Paris September 20, 1793, to a Citizen Commissioner. On the subject of the churchwardens accountants of the parishes, of the City... "As for the Church of Nôtre-Dame, its factory, in the old regime, was not administered by churchwardens; the chapter of Nôtre-Dame had kept the administration of it"... L.A.S. to Abbot BOSSUT. He thanks him for sending a life of Pascal, and points out to him some works where Pascal's family is treated. Attached is a L.A.S. from Jean-Claude LE BLANC DE BEAULIEU (1753-1825), "Curé de S. Severin" (future constitutional bishop of Rouen then Soissons), February 28, 1793 (2 p. in-4), about GOBEL and the parish of Saint-Séverin.
