Jean-Marie COLLOT D'HERBOIS (1749-1796) actor and playwright, a member of the Convention (Paris), a fiery Montagnard, a member of the Committee of Public Safety, he violently repressed the insurrection of Lyon and was one of the main actors of Robespierre's downfall; condemned to deportation to French Guiana where he died. L.S., co-signed by Hérault de Séchelles, Paris on the 26th of the first month of the year 2 of the French Republic (October 17, 1793), to the Representatives of the People sent by the National Convention to Brest; 1 page in-fol. On the subject of "the grain shipments that are made on the coasts around St Malo, Grandville, Coutances, &ca"; they ask "to have the inhabitants of Morbihan and Finistère watched"... Attached is a L.A.S. from Adjutant General Beaufort to Collot d'Herbois, Orléans September 25, 1793 (2 p. in-fol.), complaining that he was mistaken for another Beaufort.
