Claude FAUCHET (1744-1793) priest and preacher to the King, he was enthusiastic about the Revolution; constitutional bishop of Calvados, deputy to the Legislative, Conventional (Calvados), condemned with the Girondins and guillotined. L.A.S., October 2, 1789, to Bernardin de Saint-Pierre; 1 page in-4. Beautiful letter thanking for the sending of the Vœux d'un solitaire. "The wishes of a solitary [...] are those of a lover of nature, of the country and of virtue. I will never return to you by my works the pleasure that you give me by yours ". He sends his last speech to her: "I ask for the national sanction to consummate the legislation. I believe that only the nation can know if its representatives have expressed its will ". It is on this only point that he deviates from the views of his correspondent, "without never deviating from your intentions and your feelings which tend all to the public good and the happiness of France. [...] I embrace you and love you with all my heart. You were the first of the French writers"... We attached a P.S., co-signed by the Count of Miroménil (who wrote), August 3, 1789 (on the letterhead of the Assembly of Representatives of the Paris Commune, Committee of Police); plus a p.s. by Gustave Doulcet, "Extrait du Procès-verbal des séances de l'Assemblée électorale du Dépt du Calvados," Sept. 11, 1792, electing Calvados bishop Claude Fauchet deputy of Calvados to the Convention Nationale (red wax seal); and 10 printed documents, Mar. 4-Sept. 30, 1790, letters and excerpts of the deliberations of the Assemblée des Représentans de la Commune, under the presidency of Fauchet...
