TAKING OF THE BASTILLE. P.S. by various personalities of the DISTRICT OF POPINCOURT, including Jacques BELHOMME, April 19-20, 1790; 2 pages in-4, 2 beautiful red wax seals. Minutes concerning the citizens composing the patrol of Charonne at the Prise de la Bastille. "The named Guerin cavalier of the Prevetoté Generalle des Monnoyes de France, commanding the post of the Barriere de Fontarabie leading a patrol through the fields, and returning to his post by the grander street of the faubourg. St. Antoine, learning by the public eye that the Bastille was being attacked, immediately sent his group composed of the people named below, who behaved as people of honor and remained there until the place was completely reduced. The "Names of the citizens who made up the Patrol" follow, with their addresses (they all live on rue Charonne): Guerin, Susset, Tignon, Dodet, Croizé, Aclais, Martin, Jominy, Meunier. Following, SAVIN, "former commander in chief of the district of Trenelle, Capne of the grenadiers of St Marguerite", attests: "It is of public notoriety in the district that the subnamed ones were at the siege of the Bastille"; sign then VERDIER, "President of Tresnel in the first week of the revolution"; Jacques BELHOMME, "treasurer of the ditrique of St Marguerite"; LEMASLE and JOUIN, electors of the district. The document is certified and signed by DEMOULIN and LADEVEZE, President and Secretary of the District of Sainte-Marguerite (wax seal); then by VERPY and COUCHÉ, President and Clerk Secretary of the District of Popincourt "ci-devant appellé Tresnel" (wax seal: District of Popincourt, Free and Just).Rare document bearing the rare signature of Jacques BELHOMME (1737-1824), whose "health house", rue de Charonne, welcomed and sheltered many aristocratic prisoners during the Terror.
