Bon-Claude CAHIER de Gerville (1751-1816) Prosecutor-Syndic of the Commune of Paris, minister of the Interior. 2 L.A.S. as Procureur-Syndic of the Commune, Paris1790-1791; 2 and 1 pages in-4, on the letterhead and vignette of the Municipality of Paris. June 10, 1790, to the lawyer Henrion d'Hermeville, about a convicted follicular who "does not have a chair that one can seize. I am not unaware that he is sold to the aristocracy & it is not my fault if he has kept his baseness, for I have tried to inspire him with other feelings, even by promising him favors. [...] Fortunately his talent does not match his bad intentions. He only writes for the kitchen. There are others more dangerous than him& from time to time I am authorized to denounce them to the Chatelet [...] the united efforts of the enemies of the public good have only slightly delayed the completion of the Revolution & their attempts will not be more successful in the future than they have been up to now "... March 19, 1791, to the President of the Section Committee of the Palais Royal; he asks him to ask four priests "if it is with their consent that their names have been removed from the list of confessors"; he commits him to supervise "the conduct of the refractory priests of the parish of St Roch. Until the Constitutional Bishop of Paris, and the new parish priests have taken up their duties, we must keep carefully on our guard; and your parish requires special attention"...
