Étienne CLAVIÈRE (1735-1793) banker, deputy, minister of finance; arrested with the Girondins, he stabbed himself. L.A. and L.S., August-November 1792; 1 page in-4 and 2 pages in-fol. L.A. (minute), August 21, 1792, to the Commissaires de la place Vendôme. On the liquidation of the civil list. A decree "orders the accountants of the civil list to render their accounts in 24 h. to the executive power, which will make pour in the national treasury the money coming from these accountants", as well as the incomes of the domains and buildings belonging to the civil list. L.S. with autogr. postscript (10 lines), Paris November 30, 1792, to the directoire of the district of Compiègne. On the strikes of the workers of the forest of Compiègne who demand "half in addition to the ordinary price [...] they seek to involve the others or to make cease any kind of work".Clavière rises against "these kinds of coalitions contrary to a wise freedom [...] a contractor must be master in his workshops".
