François-Louis-Esprit DUBOIS (1758-1804) magistrate; convent - Lot 230
François-Louis-Esprit DUBOIS (1758-1804) magistrate; conventionnel (Haut-Rhin). L.A.S., Aix-La-Chapelle 4 prairial [23 May 1795], to his colleague and friend Michel-Louis Talot in Andernach; 2 1/2 pages in-4, addressed with ink and red wax seal. He responds to Talot's criticism: "For a small mistake [...] you treat me harshly, my friend; but you are right. I was wrong to grant permission to Morlot's wife [...] as for a supposed decree which must have hindered the works in Coblentz, I have no knowledge of it and I dare to say that there is none from me. All that I remember is that the fines pronounced against the communities which had not provided their quota of men having accumulated, I said to Marceau that I believed that he could grant a small moderation"... He answered the commissioner of the wars Nogarède in Nimègue, "so that he has to continue the necessary cuts for the mission of the bread of the army. The spirit of the Treaty with Prussia is [...] that the countries of Cleves, Guelders and Meurs remain subject as before the peace to the necessary requisitions"...
