Important silver "agricultural trophy" cup (950) By Christofle, 1862 Based on models by Eugène Capy and Pierre-Louis Rouillard The base of circular form with geometrical motives, posing on four feet openwork of foliage, the terrace applied in round-bosse of an ox, a ram and a ewe, a sickle, and sheaves of wheat; the baluster shaft with an urn, the plate decorated with four rural scenes with the legends: PATURAGE, MOISSON, VENDANGE, LABOURAGE ", surmounted on a cylindrical base by a statue of Ceres holding in one hand a laurel wreath and in the other a cornucopia. The border of the base signed : CH CHRISTOFLE Ft 1862 The border of the plate with the inscription: MINISTERE DE L'AGRICULTURE DU COMMERCE ET DES TRAVAUX PUBLICS MDCCCLXII The base of Ceres: applied of the armorial bearings of Napoleon III, and the inscription: DECERNEE A/ CONCOURS REGIONAL OF ANGERS. Minerva hallmark Goldsmith's hallmark and mark in all letters Number : 393840 Height : 64,5 cm - Diameter of the tray : 39,5 cm - Gross weight : 9k 600 (Shock on the tray) ------ A similar trophy made by Christofle with the collaboration of the sculptors Eugène Capy (1829-1894) for the statue of Ceres and Pierre-Louis Rouillard (1820-1881) for the animals and probably also for the bas-reliefs, was presented for the first time at the London World's Fair in 1862. About fifteen of these silver models are known, as listed by Anne Gros, who is in charge of the Bouilhet Christofle museum and archives.
