Jean-Raymond FAYOLLE (1746-1821) conventionnel (Drôme). L.A. - Lot 89
Jean-Raymond FAYOLLE (1746-1821) conventionnel (Drôme). L.A.S., Paris June 9, 1793; 2 1/4 pages in-fol. On the riot of May 31-June 2, the siege of the Convention by Hanriot, the accusation and arrest of the Girondins. He fears for the fatherland..." The convention does not have any more freedom, the tribunes and the constituted authorities of Paris take it away from us". On June 2, "about 80 000 men surrounded the castle of the tuileries with cannon [...] I saw several soldiers on the windows of the castle who said to me to have of their officers the instruction to shoot those who would put themselves at the windows". Hanriot asked for the arrest of 22 deputies: "among these 22 there is one who has great virtues joined with great talents, and against whom one cannot articulate even a fault. Also the denunciations made against them are not supported on anything". He hopes that civil war will be avoided, because the people of Paris are tired of horrors, of anarchy, and desire order... "those who do all the evil is a troop of factious who squander the public treasury, or receive money from the enemy, and who by their audacity spread terror"...
