Joseph-Marie Tennet de LAUBADÉRE (1745-1809) general of the - Lot 119
Joseph-Marie Tennet de LAUBADÉRE (1745-1809) general of the Revolution, he distinguished himself at the siege of Landau. L.S. as "General of Division Commander in Chief at Landau", Strasbourg 3 pluviôse II (January 22, 1794), to a "dear Comrade"; 3 pages in-fol. Long and interesting letter telling about the siege of Landau... "I have defended as best I could the position I had to support; any good Republican would have done in my place what I did". He explains his conflicts with the conventionalist DENTZEL, also locked up in Landau: "Dentzel seized the powers he did not have, showing despotism; he arbitrarily suspended General Delmas, "a brave man without breeches, a good fellow who fights vigorously," and he took measures that were dangerous for the safety and defense of the town. Laubadère recounts the violent bombardments he had to endure, the decrease in food supplies, the riots caused by the supporters of the capitulation that he always repulsed with horror... "I had our horses killed, which replaced the fresh meat for three weeks, I answered the summonses of the enemy with letters that breathed the purest republicanism and the deepest contempt for the Kings. It is after having endured so many evils, that I saw myself helped by our valiant brothers of the Armees of the Rhine and the Mozelle"...
