Antoine BERTRAND (1752-1796) mayor of Lyon during the Terror, he was involved in Babeuf's conspiracy and shot after the affair of the camp of Grenelle. L.S. as mayor, co-signed by 8 municipal officers, Commune Affranchie 19 pluviôse II (February 7, 1794), to "Citoyens Representants envoyés dans cette commune pour le Bonheur du peuple"; 2 pages in-fol., plus 1 page in-fol. enclosed. Commune Affranchie. The Mayor and municipal officers of Commune Affranchie send to the representatives of the People a copy (attached, certified by the secretary clerk Ricouff) of their letter of 12 nivôse, asking what course to take with regard to the acts "passed during the siege by the rebels": "the acts of births, marriages, divorces and deaths, signed by these criminals can they be regarded as valid"... They also send them a copy of a letter of the district of Tanargue relating to Joseph Garidel son, "died has cy-devant Lyon before the 6 7bre 1793 (old style)", to know which conduct to hold "when it will be required of us extracts of the civil acts passed during the infamous rebellion of cy-devant Lyon"... On the back of the letter, autograph note of Joseph FOUCHÉ: "Answer to the Municipality that the answers to these two questions are postponed until the definitive measures proposed to the National Convention by the Representatives of the people are decreed".
