Louis-Thibault DU BOIS DU BAIS (1743-1834) deputy and conven - Lot 126
Louis-Thibault DU BOIS DU BAIS (1743-1834) deputy and conventioneer (Calvados). L.A.S., Paris 15 ventôse II (March 5, 1794), to the Comité de Sûreté générale; 3 pages in-fol. Interesting letter on Federalism. Du Bois du Bais presents observations on the report relating to the federalists, as he had done for that of Jullien de Toulouse, which "implicitly implies all the deputies of Calvados to have held conciliations with commissioners sent from this department at the time of the days of May 31 and June 2". Du Bois du Bais was then on a mission in Maubeuge: "I fought effectively against federalism with success, obtaining from all the bodies of this garrison and the entire division addresses which protested firmly against all acts of federalism and even threatened to fight it. He still protests when the deputies of Calvados are reproached for cooling the zeal and the patriotism of the citizens; he always tried "to inspire the love of the fatherland, the unity and the indivisibility, and finally to warm the patriotism to the highest degree", in particular in his letters to the Popular Societies of Lisieux and Cambremer: "I had in horror the federalism which gave us up to our enemies like the royalism. [...] I was a republican before the revolution"; no one is more loyal nor more incorruptible than him...Former collection of Patrice Hennessy (his stamp).
