Pierre BOURBOTTE (1763-1795) conventionnel (Yonne), arrested - Lot 127
Pierre BOURBOTTE (1763-1795) conventionnel (Yonne), arrested after the days of Prairial and guillotined. L.A.S. with apostille a.s. from Tallien, Paris 19 ventôse II (March 9, 1794), to Tallien, President of the National Convention; 2 1/2 pages in-fol. with a vignette of the Rights of Man, on the letterhead of Bourbotte, People's Representative. On the research of the spies of the wars of Vendée. Bourbotte is exhausted and asks for a leave of absence: "Having escaped from an illness which almost ended my life in the Vendée, I have just dragged myself to Paris. The extreme weakness in which I am does not allow me to go to the Convention. [...] The decay of my health that a whole year of a laborious mission did not contribute little to destroy requires that I take some rest; I would like to breathe the native air during one month "... He sends "the correspondence of the chiefs of the brigands of the Vendée that Turreau and I seized in the various fights which were delivered to them". This correspondence proves to be of the highest importance, unmasking "the villainy of certain individuals who played among us the most energetic patriotism and corresponded at the same time with the leaders of the brigands. Several of them have already paid with their head their infamous treason", but one will still find other traitors to be punished there... He also sends "the seal which the so-called superior council of Chatillon used in its various acts and for some of the false assignats which it manufactured". Tallien, appointed president of the National Convention (March 21, 1794), noted in his hand at the head of the letter: "Congé accordé Renvoyé pour le P.S. au Comité de Sureté générale ce 19 ventose 2e année Tallien".
