Jacques-Paul DUPLANTIER (1764-1814) lawyer and naturalist, c - Lot 200
Jacques-Paul DUPLANTIER (1764-1814) lawyer and naturalist, conventional (Gironde). L.A.S., Bordeaux13 germinal IV (April 2, 1796), to his beloved Labrouste; 2 pages and a quarter in-4 (stamp of the collection P. Hennessy). About the feast celebrated in Bordeaux on the occasion of the capture of CHARETTE... "Bordeaux is still worthy of its ancient glory"... The news was received "with the most lively transport". Duplantier refutes the bad news spread by the counter-revolutionaries, in particular about "a new vendée which is organized near Blaye, and companies of young men on the side of the Landes which have already made the shot". Then he speaks about the forced loan which "will go well to 9 or ten million, but the poor and the honest craftsman will not feel the weight of it that we carry all on the great fortunes, and on the wealth amassed by speculations which contributed so much to the destruction of the public credit"...
