Ambroise SICARD (1742-1822) priest, teacher of deaf-mutes. L.A.S., [1808?], to François Roger, member of the Corps législatif; 3 pages in-8 (small lack at the lower corner without loss of text; stamp of the Jules Mony collection). Abbé Sicard asks Roger to intervene in his favor with Fontanes, grand-master of the University, for a place as ordinary adviser or inspector. "All my friends believe that I am suitable for one of these positions, because they are not unaware that my whole life has been devoted to public instruction, either in the teaching congregation of the Christian Doctrine, or in the institution which I have directed for 25 years, or in the Écoles Normales. Fontanes "knows my love for work, my zeal for the public good [...] He gave me constant proofs of esteem and friendship [...] I could have had great protections from him", notably that of the Empress. But the abbot did not want to "force the hand" to Fontanes...
