Gaston CHAISSAC (1910-1964) painter. 2 L.A.S., one with draw - Lot 246
Gaston CHAISSAC (1910-1964) painter. 2 L.A.S., one with drawings, 1957-1962, to Mrs. widow Bonnavita, and to Miss Estelle Bonavita, at "la Pichonnière", in Maillé (Vendée); 1 page and a half and 2 pages in-4, envelopes. [He reminds Mrs. Bonnavit how "chic" she was at the birth of her daughter Annie, who is now "learning the moral life" in a Savoyard farmhouse. He himself once went to a show in Paris that he thought was rural art, but it was mural art, under the presidency of the painter Saint-Maur. "It was too new for me and my borrowed air got me canned [...]. But a gentleman with a good presentation defended me and was so cordial that my disorientation fell by the wayside and I explained that I understood all that very well, that I myself had caused a sensation in the village by banging on a bowl as a tambourine before trying my hand at painting. So they were curious to see my works"... He was advertised, which provoked contradictory comments on his return to the village, some shrugging their shoulders at his "whimsical" spirit, others fearing that he was a bad example... Vix [9] July 1962, to Miss Bonavita. "My designs seem more suited to be interpreted as tapestries than as embroideries, but you might find elements for your own making. The eternal Vendée remains rather similar to itself with its secular school and its free school which keep each one of them many partisans to the point of sending their kids there but I believe that in the future one will see rather in these schools some burlesque brotherhoods "... Precisions on the distribution of the Zamba's kittens... He would have liked to buy the Pichonnière, "but my artistic production is still flowing only too slowly"... The bottom of the letter is occupied by drawings with ballpoint pen
