In-8, porphyry calf, triple gilt fillet, ornate smooth spine, red title page, marbled edges (contemporary binding). First edition of this philosophical reflection on the effects of the discovery of America. A copper-engraved frontispiece after Eisen, depicting the mistreatment of the Indians by the European conquerors, and a fold-out map. Binding badly restored, title page later.
