BRY (Gilles, sieur de La Clergerie). Histoire des pays et comté du Perche et duché d'Alençon. Paris, De l'Imprimerie de Pierre Le-Mur, 1620. In-4, vellum, double gilt fillet, foliage medallion in center, smooth spine decorated, gilt edges (period binding). First edition of this important work on the history of the province of Perche and the duchy of Alençon, written by Gilles Bry, sieur de La Clergerie, born near Bellême around 1560 and a member of the Paris parliament (Frère, I, 159.). On pp. 373-376, it contains an interesting list of the names of a number of famous people from the Perche and Alençon regions, including Rémy Belleau and Nicolas Denisot, great poets of the French Renaissance. A fine, ruled copy in contemporary gilt vellum with foliate medallion in the middle of the boards. Complete with 3 dedication leaves interspersed in the text (pp. 26-27, pp. 134-135 and pp. 259-260). Characteristic pencil reference to Bulletin Morgand (November 1895, no. 26621).
